Research and empirical evidence alike increasingly demonstrate the benefits of single-sex education and support the professional observations of a faculty experienced in the education of young men. The Avalon School believes strongly that boys have different needs than girls, in and out of the classroom. These needs are acknowledged and reflected through tailoring teaching methods to the learning styles and interests of boys. In addition, Avalon's recognition of the profound role literature, poetry and the fine arts can play in forming young men who mature into articulate, knowledgeable citizens with a broader understanding of their world is further supported by recent studies which indicate that boys in all-boy settings are more than twice as likely to study art, music, drama, foreign languages, and similar subjects than boys who attend coed schools.
